THE EVENT

Cornhole For A Cure

Cornhole for A Cure was created in 2017 by Jessica Spring to honor two men, her father, Darrell Spring and best friends father, Gary Vitanza who passed away from battles with Leukemia. These two men were the epitome of what a father and husband should be. They are greatly missed by their family that they left behind.

Darrell was a computer programmer for many years working for Honeywell and Lockheed Martin and had a car accident. When he went in for surgery, that is when the Leukemia was found. He had a bone marrow transplant in March of 1997 from his brother. It looked like he was cancer free until the summer when the Leukemia returned. He passed away October of 1997 at his home.

Gary was a long time employee of the General Motors factory in Martinsburg, WV. He was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic leukemia and his daughter, Evelyn Vitanza was his bone marrow donor in February 13, 2013. Sadly, his cancer returned and he lost his battle in February of 2016 at his home.

Cornhole for a Cure was established to raise money in a fun way to help find a cure for cancer. Cancer affects so many people in the world, whether directly or indirectly.
